Why every freelancer will make a billion in revenue next year? (And why it's not because of code)

Directly from Freelance Unlocked in Berlin, this article dispels the persistent myth that building autonomous AI agents is rocket science reserved only for programmers. It shows in a practical way how solo self-employed individuals without any coding experience can reclaim valuable time through automated agent teams, allowing them to focus fully on strategy, creativity, and real customer relationships.

Marcel Pesch

Marcel during his keynote at freelance unlocked

Two days of Freelance Unlocked in the sold-out Colosseum Berlin.
Around 1,000 freelancers in one place.
Keynotes, masterclasses and packed knowledge of the future.

In the midst of this intense dynamic, there was one specific moment that stuck in my mind. A participant came up to me immediately after my masterclass and said, visibly relieved:

“Marcel, I always thought building AI agents was absolute rocket science. Now I understand how I can finally scale my business. That was... easy?”

That was exactly my goal for this event. Because it is time to clear up the biggest and most persistent misunderstanding currently circulating in the business world.

The Myth: "You have to be a developer to build AI agents"

Many solopreneurs and consultants postpone the topic of AI automation because they believe they have to dive deep into the world of programming languages. They think of complex lines of code, server infrastructures and sleepless nights in front of the terminal.

The reality at Freelance Unlocked was different:

In our session, freelancers – completely without any coding experience – set up their first own agent teams. And they did it live, right on site and in under an hour. The proverbial "just do it" click happened for hundreds of participants at the same time.

We are moving at rapid speed into an era where logic and process understanding are replacing manual programming. Anyone who understands how a workflow needs to be strategically structured can now easily delegate the technical execution to visual no-code platforms and AI models.

The True Disruption: More Room for the Human Element

A second, fundamental learning crystallized for me from the intensive discussions over the two days in Berlin. It takes away the fear of those who worry about being automated out of a job:

AI does not replace humans. AI creates more room for the human element.

When software agents handle repetitive, time-consuming routine tasks flawlessly in the background, freelancers win back the most valuable resource of all: time.

  • More time for strategic and deep consulting.

  • More time for real, unbridled creativity.

  • More time for building and nurturing deep customer relationships.

AI optimizes efficiency, but humans provide the irreplaceable context, empathy and trust.

Conclusion: When participants become sought-after experts

However, the absolute highlight of these two days in Berlin was of a personal nature for me: seeing so many familiar faces from our Master Management with AI (MMAI) program again.

It is one thing to talk theoretically about market change. It is a completely different thing to live-meet people who started with us in the MMAI program a few months ago as classic freelancers and today strategically advise established companies as sought-after experts in the context of AI transformation.

These are exactly the moments and success stories for which we built academy4.ai. The rules of the game for freelancers have been rewritten – and the scaling has only just begun.

Are you still in the observer role or have you also already made the "just do it" click for your business?
